Sensei is SensoGuard's way of explaining how our security systems actually work, one idea at a time. This time, Sensei grabs a shovel to show how the AIO X wireless sensor goes into the ground. The AIO X comes in two parts, a lower base with a ground spike and an upper sensor unit, and both end up underground, connected, with nothing left above the surface. No trenching and no cables across the yard: just one hole per sensor.
1. Dig a Hole 40–50 cm Deep
First, make some room. Dig a hole roughly 40–50 cm (16–20 in) deep at the point you want to protect. Pick a stable spot, away from large roots or rocks, so the sensor sits firmly in the soil it's listening to. That spot becomes the center of the sensor's detection zone: each AIO X picks up footsteps up to 12m (39ft) and vehicles or digging up to 25m (82ft) in a full 360° radius around it.
2. Place the Base in the Hole
Next, insert the lower part of the sensor, the base with the spike, into the bottom of the hole. Before going any further, make sure it's secure and standing vertical. A base that sits straight and firm gives the rest of the sensor a solid footing once everything is covered back up.
3. Buried and Fully Protected
The upper unit goes in above the base, connected to it, and both parts are covered back up with the top of the sensor sitting just below the surface. Once the soil is back in place, the lawn looks the way it did before, and an intruder has no hardware to spot, avoid, or tamper with. That's the whole idea behind detecting intrusions underground.
From there, the AIO X is built to stay put. It's waterproof and dustproof with an IP68 rating to MIL-STD-810G, operates from -40°C to 85°C, and runs on a single battery rated for up to 6 years, so it keeps detecting 24/7 without routine maintenance visits. Frequently Asked Questions
How deep should the AIO X sensor be buried?
Dig a hole about 40–50 cm (16–20 in) deep, in a stable spot away from large roots or rocks. Both parts of the sensor go into that hole and are covered back up, so nothing is left visible above ground.
Does installing the AIO X require trenching?
No. The AIO X is a wireless, battery-powered sensor, so each unit only needs its own hole at a chosen point in the yard. There are no cables to run between sensors, and the lawn and landscaping stay intact.
Can the AIO X handle rain and extreme weather underground?
Yes. The AIO X is rated IP68 to MIL-STD-810G and operates from -40°C to 85°C (-40°F to 185°F). It runs on a single non-rechargeable battery rated for up to 6 years, so it's built to stay buried and working without routine maintenance.
How much area does one AIO X sensor cover?
Each AIO X detects footsteps up to 12m (39ft) and vehicle or digging activity up to 25m (82ft), in a full 360° radius around the spot where it's buried.
